The Lady Warriors (7-5) finished the 2020 calendar year with a two day shootout at Hanover Central on the 29th and 30th of December. In the first game, the team saw East Chicago Central (4-5), whom they had just beaten by 11 on the 21st. The game started very well, as the Lady Warriors stormed out to a 16-6 lead. That start, however, didn’t last. The team struggled in the middle quarters, being outscored 32-9. The Cardinals had a 15 point lead in the 4th quarter, when the Lady Warriors made their move. Despite having ten of their season-high 45 turnovers in the fourth quarter, the team got to within two points, before finally losing 47-43. Alexia Hall led the team with 10 points, 8 rebounds and five steals. Essence Walton added 8 points and 4 steals. Jasmin Barker had 7 points and three assists, while Demetria Maynard chipped in 6 points, 5 boards and 4 assists. Nevaeh Anderson has a whopping 12 rebounds off the bench.
In the second game, the Lady Warriors defeated Hammond Gavit (2-10) by a score of 60-45. In this game, the team started slowly but pulled away in the 2nd and third, only to have Gavit some back a bit in the 4th. Demetria Maynard led with a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jasmin Barker also scored 20, and had 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Alexia Hall also had a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Essence Walton added 6 points, five rebounds and five steals. Bailey Patrick nabbed 7 rebounds and dished out two assists.
The final game of the calendar year saw the Lady Warriors avenging an earlier loss at the hands of Bowman (1-11). The team lead pretty much throughout and won the game by a score of 53-31. Alexia Hall led with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Jasmin Barker also scored 19 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Demetria Maynard scored 9 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 5 assists. Essence Walton had 6 steals and 4 assists.
On Wednesday the 6th, the team will travel to face Michigan City Marquette.
