The Lady Warriors (7-6) began the new calendar year with a trip to Michigan City (6-5) to face the Lady Blazers of Marquette Catholic. While the game ended with a 58-51 loss, this game was the best game of the season, for the Lady Warriors. The team cut down on it’s turnovers, and most importantly, played the best defense it had played all season. While there were a couple of short point outbursts by the Lady Blazers, it was the first time that the team had put four solid quarters of good basketball together. The team trailed at the half 27-22, and found themselves down 34-24 early in the 3rd. The Lady Warriors fought back to a 38-36 deficit, only to find themselves down 43-38 at the end of three. After being down 10 once again in the fourth, the Lady Warriors again fought back to a 51-49 score with under two minutes to go. Like before, every time the team would cut it to two, the Lady Blazers would make a mini-run and put some distance between the two teams. While the defense was as good as it ever had been, second chance points doomed the Lady Warriors in this game. The team allowed 24 offensive rebounds and the Lady Blazers turned those into 21 points. Despite the loss, this game was a very good way to start a difficult stretch of games. Jasmin Barker led the way with 30 points and 8 rebounds. Alexia Hall had 14 points and 5 steals, while Demetria Maynard grabbed 11 rebounds and had 3 assists.
The team will travel to Boone Grove on Tuesday, the 12th
