The Lady Warriors (5-4) climbed back over the .500 mark and closed out their pre-Christmas schedule with a 49-38 win over the visiting East Chicago Central Lady Cardinals (3-3). East Chicago was held scoreless until the 5:30 mark of the second quarter. Even with that great defense for the first quarter and a half, poor shooting meant that the Lady Warriors were only up 24-12 at the half. East Chicago put on a press in the third quarter after makes and scored 20 points to the Lady Warriors 9 in that quarter. It was very close, even tied in the fourth quarter before the Lady Warriors pulled away for the 11 point win. Again, turnovers and free throws were an issue, giving the ball 30 times and only making 8 of 18 from the free throw line. Jasmin Barker and Alexia Hall led the team, both having double-doubles. Jasmin scored 21 and had 14 rebounds, while Alexia scored 13 and pulled down 11. Demetria Maynard scored 9, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 4 steals. The Lady Warriors will end the calendar year with a three-game shootout at Hanover Central. On Tuesday they will play East Chicago Central (3-3) at 12:30, then Hammond Gavit (1-8) at 5. On Wednesday they will return to play Bowman Academy(1-8) at 12:30.
