Riley Reeder competed at the New Prairie Semi-State Meet this past Saturday. Going into his senior year the goal was to qualify for semi-state and compete against the best runners in northern Indiana. Historically Riley has not run well on the New Prairie course, but his training has going very well and we felt like the race plan was one that would set him up for success. Our plan was to run a conservative first 2 miles then move up the pack during the last mile. Through 2 miles Riley was sitting around 160th place and by the end of the race he finished in 90th place. Riley also ran a lifetime personal best of 17:31 in the 5k and an 86 second personal best on the New Prairie course. After placing 47th at regionals last year and being 42 seconds short of qualifying for semi-state last year, Riley has put in the work and finished off the season really strong. Riley finishes his career as the 6th fastest Calumet cross country runner in the last 20 years which is a huge accomplish all on its own. Riley Reeder, LJ Thompson, and Omar Taylor will be going to Nike Cross Regionals on November 16th to compete against some of the best runners the Midwest. We will wrap up our cross country season in Terre Haute and are hoping all 3 guys run lifetime personal bests.
