The Highland Invite took place after almost 24 hours of continuous rain. We received almost 3 inches of rain in the 24 hours before the race. The course was very muddy and had standing water in spots. There were a few places where the standing water was as much as calf deep. In the huddle, I told the boys that this is cross country running in the rain and the mud. This is what cross country is all about. I then told them it is time to go out there and compete. Don’t worry about times. Just go out there and compete. As a group we competed hard and displayed that we have what it takes to be a top 5 team at sectionals in 2 weeks. I am happy with the effort that the boys displayed on Saturday. We need to bring the intensity each day. The next few weeks will give us multiple opportunities to display how hard we have worked since June.
